The arrival of good weather is the best time to attend outdoor events. Callao City Lights opens its emblematic terrace, on the rooftop of the Cines Callao, to organise corporate and cultural events.

CALLAO CINEMAS OPEN THEIR ROOFTOP AS AN EVENT VENUE

With a total capacity for 360 people in cocktail format (currently limited for health reasons), this completely open-plan and customisable space has an outdoor area of 575 m2 and a 120 m2 covered hall that serves as an anteroom. In addition, the terrace, covered with artificial grass, has a stage, a vertical garden on one of its façades and a screen to project content related to the event, as well as to recall the origin of the space as a summer cinema.

Access to the venue can be by stairs or by lift, the latter including a large monitor inside which can also be used to broadcast images in support of the event.

History

The rooftop of the Cines Callao was inaugurated as a summer cinema in 1927 and as such remained open until 1936. Specifically, it was on 6 June 1927 when it began to operate in this way, with the projection of three silent films: “¿Dónde vamos a parar?”, “La criada del coronel” and “Dick, el guarda marino”.

The venue was accessed either by two lifts or by the building’s own side staircases. One of them, crowned by the emblematic lighthouse or tower, located on the corner of the terrace, which was then used as a publicity stunt, so that the cinema could be seen at night.

With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, the summer cinema ceased to operate, but soon, with this reopening, the Callao Cinemas intend to reactivate this cultural activity.
