MARINA SERSALE AND ALEXANDER UNGER, FEBRUARY GUESTS AT CALLAO CITY ARTS

This February Callao City Arts, the artistic initiative of Cultura Inquieta  and Callao City Lights, will feature a selection of the work of the Italian photographer Marina Sersale, who repeats as guest artist, and the Austrian video artist and sculptor Alexander Unger.

Marina Sersale’s photography masters the interplay between light and shadow, focusing on creating situations that can be isolated from everyday life as if they constituted a separate reality. In her mix of photography and cinematography, she captures the life and essence of the streets of cities and towns, using the drama of black and white.

In Marina’s work we can find familiar scenes, the passenger on a sleeping train, reflections of hollow silhouettes in a glass or furtive glances that are the window to those reflections that only occur when we are aware that we exist beyond what we think we live.

Alexander Unger, also known as Guldies, creates figures that he then animates, giving rise to universes full of colour and plasticity that evoke our childhood. His boundless imagination turns inanimate objects that look like plasticine into action sequences, thanks to the stop motion technique. In addition to making videos and sculptures, this artist has a popular YouTube channel where he shares sculpture and animation tutorials as well as amusing short fiction films that are ingenious experiments in animation.
