CALLAO CITY LIGHTS BROADCASTS LIVE THE FIRST OFFICIAL CANARIAN WRESTLING MATCH HELD ON THE PENINSULA

On the 17th of May, the emblematic Plaza del Callao in Madrid was the setting for the first official Canarian wrestling match held on the peninsula. A historic day for this native sport with more than 500 years of history, which was broadcast live on the giant Callao City Lights screen located in the square.

The event, promoted by La Federación de Lucha Canaria and Consejería de Educación, Formación Profesional, Actividad Física y Deportes del Gobierno de Canarias, was held in a wrestling arena specially installed for the occasion, with new sand from the volcano of La Palma, as a tribute and wink to the inhabitants of the island who suffered the consequences of the eruption a few years ago, and a portable grandstand with a capacity for a hundred spectators.

Exhibition
The day closed with a private event on the terrace of the Callao Cinemas, where the exhibition of Lucha Canaria paintings by the Canarian painter Ciro Miró was presented and a video with footage of the sport was shown.
