MÁRIA ŠVARBOVÁ’S REFRESHING WORK TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN AUGUST AT CALLAO CITY ARTS

We soothe the high summer temperatures with the refreshing work of Mária Švarbová. The Slovak photographer returns to Callao City Arts, the artistic programme promoted by Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights, with an exhibition of her photographs, where swimmers and swimming pools are the protagonists. The selection of pieces also includes images captured in desert landscapes, in which the female figure once again takes centre stage. Before choosing photography as her medium of expression, Mária studied restoration and archaeology.

Symmetry, light and pastel colours are some of the constants in his work. Her colourful series of static swimmers, as hypnotic as they are distant, shows a functionalist architecture, typical of Soviet countries, full of straight lines, white tiles and large windows with lots of natural light. Calm and stillness are also the protagonists of this artist’s images of desert landscapes, thanks to the immobility of her protagonists. Female figures whose clothing is reminiscent of the 1960s and which give meaning to the spaces in which they are photographed.

NINA MURO AND HER WORK FOR THE MMMAD FESTIVAL, PROTAGONISTS IN MAY AT CALLAO CITY ARTS

This May, Callao City Arts, the artistic programme promoted by Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights, dedicates its space to Nina Muro, the artist in charge of creating the image for the 5th edition of MMMAD, the urban digital art festival to be held in Madrid from 9 to 31 May.

Nina Muro, a visual artist from Madrid based in Berlin, works in the fields of graphic design, digital illustration and animation, and her work is defined by explorations of colour and abstract compositions, in which she mixes 2D and 3D techniques.

Under the slogan ‘I’m feeling lucky/Me siento afortunado’, this edition of the MMMAD Festival will explore the contradictions that the digital world poses to us on a daily basis, through the work of nearly 40 artists who will exhibit their work in different enclaves of the city.

ARCHITECTURE AND MINIMALISM, PROTAGONISTS IN MARCH IN CALLAO CITY ARTS

This March, Callao City Arts, the artistic programme promoted by Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights, brings us an exhibition of Inge Schuster’s work. The Danish photographer creates amazing works where architecture and urban environments are the protagonists. A minimalist universe full of straight lines and different textures that captures the viewer’s attention.

Combining photography and graphic work, her work conveys the grandeur of the buildings and constructions that make up some cities. Deep and colourful images that remind us of the strokes of a renaissance style painting. And they take us to a parallel world of images of architecture, streets and infinite staircases, in which the human being is a casual element.

LAETITIA FRELING’S SEASCAPES ARRIVE IN FEBRUARY AT CALLAO CITY ARTS

February arrives at Callao City Arts, the artistic programme of Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights, full of attractive images of the sea and its coastline. A sample of the work of French photographer Laetitia Freling that takes us to beautiful seascapes taken in different parts of the world.

Passionate about images, illustrations are her source of inspiration, as well as graphics, aesthetics and colour. In fact, her minimalist work is particularly striking for its colour.

“Creating, imagining from a photo is fascinating for me because creativity can be infinite,” says Laetitia Freling.

The Argentine video artist and photographer Matías Alonso Revelli is the new protagonist of Callao City Arts, the artistic initiative promoted by Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights. The sea and the moon are the main themes of the pieces of his work selected for this month of August. Compositions, sometimes unreal, that show us a minimalist nature of bluish and pinkish tones, bathed by the peculiar moonlight of summer nights.

NOELL OSZVALD’S MINIMALIST SELF-PORTRAIT COMES TO CALLAO CITY ARTS IN MAY

Hungarian photographer Noell Oszvald is the protagonist of the month of May at Callao City Arts, the artistic programme promoted by Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights.

Born in 1990, she started in the world of photography in 2011. Her work is full of black and white self-portraits in which the author barely shows her face. Minimalist images in which she appears interacting with a fictitious environment dominated by geometric lines, which transport the viewer to a dreamlike world. And with which Oszvald conveys emotions and experiences such as solitude, calm, mystery and beauty.

NIR FILLS THE MONTH OF APRIL WITH SPECTACULAR SKIES IN CALLAO CITY ARTS

Israeli photographer Nir stars in April at Callao City Arts, the cultural and artistic initiative promoted by Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights. Our screens are filled with birds and horses in landscapes with incredible skies. A show full of beauty and colour to celebrate the arrival of spring.

Born in 1979 in a small kibbutz in northern Israel, Nir is a great lover of nature. His work includes a collection of landscapes where the sky is almost always the protagonist. Skies of sunsets and sunrises that are crossed by all kinds of birds or that accompany beautiful landscapes inhabited by horses.

THE AFRICAN COLOUR OF THANDIWE MURIU’S WORK IN CALLAO CITY ARTS

The colourful photographic work of Thandiwe Muriu is the protagonist this March of Callao City Arts, the artistic outreach programme promoted by Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights.

Passionate about photography since the age of 14, Thandiwe Muriu was born and grew up in Kenya in a family marked by art, with a sister who was a stylist and another who was a virtuoso pianist. As a teenager, influenced by Vogue magazine and its aesthetic canons, she refined her photographic practice by taking one of her sisters as a portrait model. While pursuing higher education at a business school, she continued to refine her technique with the help of fellow African photographers Mutua Matheka and Emmanuel Jambo. Thanks to social media, his photographs became very successful, which led him to sign his first contract for an international advertising campaign at the age of 23

Through her work, Thandiwe seeks to reclaim the self-esteem of the African woman, often excluded from beauty standards in her own country. Her work highlights the natural beauty of women with black skin and afro hairstyles, while reconnecting with the past of African culture through the use of colourful fabrics that mimic the clothing of the subjects of her photographs.

Thandiwe has exhibited her work throughout Europe and has been recognised with the People’s Choice Award for Emerging Photographer of the Year at Photo London 2020 and the British Journal of Photography 2021 Female In Focus Award.

The month of May arrives at Callao City Arts, the artistic programme of Cultura Inquieta and Callao City Lights, with an exhibition of the work of British photographer Oliver Mayhall and Swedish video artist Andreas Wannerstedt. Oliver Mayhall‘s photography is precise, elegant and refined, masterfully balancing nature and humanity. His images capture the most curious and original aspects of everyday life, based on abstract and undefined portraits that shuffle the order and change the rules. A black and white work that transports the viewer to a dreamlike world, inviting reflection.

Andreas Wannerstedt returns to Callao City Arts, this time with the image of sculptures and geometric elements in a perfectly synchronised movement that we can’t stop looking at. Sculptures and geometric shapes dodge each other millimetrically avoiding collision. Hypnotic sequences framed in natural environments that evoke the times of Renaissance sculpture.

CEDERBERG AND TIRADOR FILL WITH CONTRAST THE SCREENS OF CALLAO CITY ARTS

Callao City Arts brings two contrasting proposals in April. The minimalism of the Swedish photographer Marcus Cederberg and the frenetic rhythm of the images of Tirador, one of the most prestigious Spanish video jockeys of the moment.

Marcus Cederberg‘s lens is capable of capturing the beauty in the simplest things, creating images that exude calm and soothe us, distancing us from the frenetic life of today’s society.

Cederberg began his career on Instagram, where he already has more than 150,000 followers. His work has been exhibited in galleries in the United States (New York, Los Angeles…), Germany, India and Sweden. Now, his minimalism comes to the screens of Callao City Lights to brighten up the spring, thanks to Cultura Inquieta.

Tirador (Diego López Bueno) is a visual artist specialising in found footage and moving image collage. Mixing and experimenting with multiple layers of content are the foundations on which his work is based. Black and white photographs, video clips from other times, magazine clippings, collages… Tirador’s art is an amalgam of layers that demand our attention in order to make sense, a meaning that depends on the audience that confronts his video pieces.

Tirador has shown his video art in New York, Reykjavik, Paris and Istanbul and has been the creator, among other works, of the videos of the band Vetusta Morla.
